The Press bears a big responsibility in antagonizing the differences among religions by focusing only on the negative events & relating these to Islam eventhough most often they are not. Mr Burston`s mia culpa is a start but i think that such a delicate & wide subject cannot be given its full right in talkbacks.
Islam is not a new religion but a confirmation of Judaism & Christianity with a revolutionary pinch against the rigid clerical institutions. In the same way as Jesus christ revolutionized judaism by focusing on the heart of the message & being flexible on the dogms, Islam at its beginings revolutionized christianity by focusing on the simplicity of the message & breaking all the barriers among the social classes. This is why the spread of Islam was fulgurant. It has given freedom & dignity to the people who were suffering the rule of oppressing emperors.
The pharao`s of today have trouble with Islam for the same reason. If you bow only to God, you don`t bow for the pharao ! |
