It is true that fundamentalist Islam seems to have chosen violence as a means of imposing its doctrine, yet the Pope is in no position to adopt a `holier than thou` attitude. The bloody
history of the early Church cannot be swept under the rug. Thousands on innocent humans were
burnt alive in a gruesome ceremony that the Church had the temerity of calling `an act of faith` or `auto da fe`. Islam, at that time, was a very tolerant religion. No one can forget the glory of Moslem Spain.
I think it is time that we all realize that no one has `The Truth`, and that we should all learn to respect diversity of belief in the search for that elusive `Truth`.
It is of interest to note that the last `auto da fe` took place in Spain in 1825.
