The Ghetto Uprising Monument in Warsaw was built just a few years after the end of WWII. Unfortunately the communist authorities did not allow a monument commemorating another uprising that took place in 1944 in Warsaw, because they considered it more anti-Soviet than anti-German. Your teacher might have been bitter about that. Why can we pay respect to the victims of one uprising, but not the other? It was only when the communism in Poland began to crumble that we were able to openly talk about all aspects of our history.
