Like so many steps this government has taken without due reflection since it took office, the arrest of most of the PA`s Hamas parliamentarians must have seemed like a good idea to someone, somewhere at the time. Just like those other ideas, it has caused Israel`s reputation infinite damage without bringing the country benefit that would even half justify such lunatic behavior.
Half Lebanon was flattened, Hizballah is not disarmed; the blockade of Lebanon was generously lifted when the international community broke through it; and Israel`s courts are freeing hostages expressly taken so that they could be exchanged for Gilad Shalit instead of the Palestinian prisoners Hamas wanted.
