High expectations are often dashed because they are high and low expectations exceeded because they are low. So, which is better to have? Israel has high expectations; in war to realize its goals and devastate its enemies quickly. It didn`t do that in this war. Islamic nations apparently have very low expectations. In Lebanon its dead and injured outnumbered the Israelies 5-7 to 1 and its physical destruction was far greater but it won? Its about to deal with an international force which if not effective will legitimize much heavier force by Israel next time. You see, this wasn`t a war. It was a skirmish and Israel, far more respectful of human life than the Hezzy`s, fought a restrained battle. As several military analysts have pointed out, Israel could have flattened every building in Southern Lebanon and waited for the prarie dog Hezzys to leave their holes.
So Mark, Lebanon is in control and wants peace. If true it will need a lot of help it could have called on before the mess. |
