Hezbollah has publicly stated that they will not disarm anytime soon. I`t would also be fair to say that they still have the capacity to terrorize Northern Israel with rockets. Even on the last day of hostilities they fired over 200 rockets at Israeli cities.
The army of Lebanon is more like a militia, they don`t have the training, equipment, manpower, or support to forcefully disarm Hezbollah, so what has changed from July 12 to now, it appears very little. The loss of human life was minimal with about 1200 total casualties in countries with millions, but the loss of infrastructure, strain on economy, and displacement of civiliians was the only thing achieved by the IDF. Hezbollah is still around and reportedly rearming from Syria. The Lebanese army can`t and doesn`t have the support to disarm Hezbollah.
That was the sticking point of the Isrealis in negotiations, that Hezbollah would be disarmed, and that doesn`t appear to be happening, so Israel must not relent on this issu |
