Junior faculty union warns of looming university strike

By Ofri Ilani, Haaretz Correspondent

The junior university faculty union said on Monday that they will go on strike if negotiations on their employment conditions do not resume immediately.

Union leader Eli Lahar said that if talks aren't launched shortly, "the spring term [which is due to open in May] is in danger."

The agreement that ended the months-long senior faculty strike did not address junior faculty demands.

Ohad Karni, the head of the Tel Aviv University junior faculty union, said that external lecturers "do a significant share of the workload, while only being rewarded for frontal teaching."

"Universities consistently discriminate against this group, and there are currently dozens of pending cases of allegedly delayed wage payments."
