Diplomat James Cunningham to be named U.S. envoy to Israel

The U.S. State Department was set to announce Wednesday the appointment of James Cunningham to the post of United States Ambassador to Israel.

Cunningham, a career diplomat, has been serving as U.S. Consul General in Hong Kong since 2005.

He served as the acting United States Ambassador to the United Nations in 2001, and Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations up until 2005.

Cunningham will replace current ambassador Richard Jones.
