Underworld figure's son turns himself in to police after months in hidingBy Roni Singer-Heruti, Haaretz Correspondent Dror Alperon, 19, son of underworld figure Yaakov Alperon, turned himself in on Wednesday, after two months in which he was wanted by Israel Police. Police have been searching for Alperon since December 2007, in connection to the attempted murder of another underworld figure, Rafi Ohana. Alperon is suspected of going to Gan Haim, near Kfar Sava, where Ohana was being held under house arrest, and shooting him. Amir Nigraker, 20, from Ashdod, was also with Alperon during the shootout and is currently in custody. Alperon's attorney confirmed that his client revealed himself to police, and maintained he did not know where he was hiding until Wednesday. Following December's shootout, which left Ohana suffering light injuries, Alperon's father Yaakov was remanded to six days in custody. His accomplice, Nigraker, was also arrested. An indictment was filed last week against Nigraker, charging him with shooting Ohana. Police believe that Dror Alperon decided to give himself in now, after the case's evidence and charges against Nigraker were filed with the court, and therefore he was aware of what information investigators have concerning the case. It is believed that Alperon himself thinks he too will be released. The Alperon family have been warring with the Ohana brothers, who are under house arrest on murder charges. Related articles: |
