A few good men?Just two men have signed up for a "speed dating" event for singles in their 50s and 60s sponsored by the Association of Americans and Canadians in Israel (AACI) later this month, leaving women who signed up for the program unsure if it will actually take place. So far, 20 women are expecting to take part in the Jerusalem event and another 10 are on the waiting list. But response from men has been tepid at best. "We're hoping to drum up support, but we're not surprised that this is the situation," Michael Meshbaum, AACI program coordinator in Jerusalem said. "With a younger crowd, the response is usually more even. In this age group, there is less an initiative taken by men." "Speed dating" gathers singles in a room so that they can rotate between short "dates" - sometimes for just a few minutes each. As part of the program, a person can have as many as 15 dates in a single sitting. Bachelors interested in signing up can contact the AACI at 02-561 7151. |
