Tel Aviv Court extends remand of U.S. basketballer Will BynumBy Roni Singer-Heruti and Ofer Matan, Haaretz Correspondents Tel Aviv Magistrates Court on Sunday extended the remand of Maccabi Tel Aviv point guard Will Bynum, arrested on Saturday on suspicion of running over a 22-year-old with his car. The basketball player allegedly hurt the man, who was hospitalized in serious but stable condition, while attempting to get away from a Tel Aviv bar fight on Friday night. Different versions of events have been given for the incident since Bynum's arrest. Bynum claimed he was innocent at the court hearing. He was represented by attorney Shimon Mizrahi, who is also the Chairman of Maccabi Tel Aviv. Mizrahi asked the court to release the player. Police, however, argued that they had new evidence and "objective witnesses," and asked for a four-day remand extension. The court ruled on a two-day extension, valid until Tuesday morning. While Maccabi Tel Aviv is publicly supporting Bynum, it is planning on releasing him immediately after the affair is over. Members of the team's management said on Saturday "Bynum will no longer wear a Maccabi shirt." Related articles: |
