Former Mofaz aide sentenced to six months in jail over sexual assault

By Fadi Eyadat, Haaretz Correspondent

The Haifa District Court on Sunday sentenced a former aide of Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz to six months imprisonment on charges of indecent assault and sexual harassment of three of his partner's sisters.

The verdict states that Jonathan Yair Sabag, 28, a former aide of Mofaz, and his partner, 25, lived together in Ramat Hasharon. The parents and 14 year-old sister of Sabag's partner came to live with them during the Second Lebanon War in the summer of 2006. Sabag took advantage of the younger sister when they were alone, and forcefully tried to kiss her.

In another incident, Sabag is accused of touching the sister without her consent. After she returned with her parents to their Nahariya home, the sister continued to receive sexually explicit messages from the accused.

The sentence also refers to another incident four years ago, in which Sabag, who then lived with his partner's family, sexually assaulted another one of her sisters, then 15.

He is further accused of repeatedly harassing a third sister by making sexually explicit comments.

In addition to the six months prison sentence, Sabag also received an 18-month suspended sentence and is to pay compensation of NIS 20 thousand to the sisters.
