MKs to PM Olmert: Oust Education Minister Yuli Tamir from post

By Shahar Ilan, Haaretz Correspondent

Around 40 Members of Knesset, including members of the Kadima party, signed a petition Wednesday calling for Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to oust Education Minister Yuli Tamir from her post because of the current strike in universities and high-schools

The petition maintained that, "regretfully, we didn't see and are seeing the education minister show involvement and leadership throughout the crises, which her position requires."

The MKs also demanded that the prime minister get involved in finding a solution the current education crises.

The majority of the signatories are from the opposition Likud party. Kadima signatories include former director-general of the education ministry MK Ronit Tirosh, Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz, and House Committee chairman David Tal.

The petition was initiated by MK Gideon Sa'ar (Likud) and MK Ronit Tirosh.

In response to the petition, Tamir said on Channel Two television that "not Netenyahu, Ronit Tirosh, nor Gideon Sa'ar will teach me how to manage the system, since I am still repairing the damages they left over."
