Dozens injured as passenger bus crashes into truck near AcreBy Jack Khoury and Yuval Azoulay, Haaretz Correspondents Dozens of people were injured Tuesday afternoon when a passenger bus collided with a truck on Route 85 between Kiryat Shmona and Acre. Most of the 25 to 30 people hurt were passengers on the Acre-bound Egged bus and sustained only light injuries. Magen David Adom emergency medical services ambulances rushed to the scene, and a rescue helicopter was also called in to help evacuate those hurt in the crash. Superintendent Eli Va'aknin of the Galilee traffic police said the bus driver apparently failed to keep his distance from the truck. Earlier in the day, 17 people were very lightly injured when a bus crashed into a concrete wall near the Tiberias Central Bus Station. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle in the slippery conditions, although the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. Also Wednesday, a western Galilee man was killed when he was struck by lightning while fishing on a beach near the northern coastal town of Nahariya. Also on Haaretz.com: |
