Police arrest psychiatric patient for allegedly choking fellow patientBy Jack Khoury, Haaretz Correspondent Hadera police arrested Sunday a 41-year-old psychiatric patient at the "Sha'ar Menashe" psychiatric facility near Pardes Hanna after he allegedly assaulted a fellow patient, 62. The suspect is believed to have choked the victim with a towel, causing serious bodily harm that may have lead to a state of clinical death. The suspect will be brought before the Hadera Magistrate's Court on Sunday for extension of his remand. Hadera police chief Eli Crispil said the victim was taken to Hillel Yafe hospital in the city in serious condition. Police arrived at the hospital and later arrested the suspect for allegedly choking the victim. Asked if the psychiatric hospital was criminally liable, Crispil said that the matter is being looked into, and in the meantime none of the mental hospital staff or management is being held accountable.
