Police suspect Or Yehuda man of stabbing his wife while inebriated

By Roni Singer-Heruti, Haaretz Correspondent

A 52-year-old Or Yehuda resident was arrested on Saturday on suspicion that he had stabbed his wife, wounding her moderately to seriously.

Police officers arrived at the couple's home after receiving neighbors' complaints reporting the woman's screams.

The man was scheduled to be brought before the court for a remand extension hearing Saturday evening.

At around 2:30 P.M., the couple's neighbors began calling the police with complaints of domestic violence. The neighbors said that the man had been beating his wife and that screams were emanating from their shared apartment.

The police rushed to the scene and found the woman with several stab wounds to the chest, arms and legs. The victim was conscious, and was immediately taken to Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer.

An initial investigation revealed that an argument had broken out between the two shortly before the incident, and the husband had apparently acted under the influence of alcohol.
