Three killed, at least 8 hurt in traffic accidents over weekendBy Eli Ashkenazi, Haaretz Correspondent and Haaretz Service Three people were killed and at least 8 others injured in traffic accidents that occurred across the country over the weekend. A 5-year-old boy was critically injured Saturday morning when he was run over by a car while crossing a road near Shata prison in the Jezreel Valley. A helicopter evacuated him to Haifa's Rambam Medical Center for treatment. On Friday, three motorists were killed in two separate incidents near Tul Karm and Beit Shemesh. In the first incident, two people died and three others were injured when two cars collided near the West Bank city of Tul Karm. Police believe the accident occurred on account of the slippery road caused by the winter season's first rains. Near Beit Shemesh, a man was taken to hospital in critical condition where he later died of injuries incurred when he crashed his motorcycle into side of the road. According to an initial inquiry, he lost control of his vehicle while speeding. In another accident on Friday, six people were injured -one critically, two seriously and three others lightly- in a collision between two cars in the Western Galilee region. A new Magen David Adom helicopter ambulance was used for the first time to evacuate the injured passengers |
