One killed in Shomron road accident, another dies on highway pileupBy Haaretz Service One person was killed another moderately wounded on Thursday when two vehicles collided near the Ma'aleh Shomron settlement in the northern West Bank. Also Thursday, one person was killed and 15 others were injured - at least two of them seriously - in a pile-up road accident on Israel southbound coastal highway near Kibbutz Ma'agan Michael. Three of the casualties were seriously injured in the accident, which occurred after two commercial vehicles slammed into a private car which had stopped on the side of the road. An initial police investigation reveals that the driver of the private vehicle had pulled over to the left side after noticing a problem with his car. The accident chain began after one commercial vehicle, filled with passengers, crashed into the private car, sending it spinning to the right lanes. Another commercial vehicle slammed into those cars and third, also carrying passengers, crashed into the first. Northern District Police's road safety chief Nabil Isawi reiterated that drivers must not "stop on the left side of the highway, on the divider zone, but on the right side, which is marked in yellow." The highway has been reopened to traffic. |
