Three more candidates to contend for position of state prosecutorBy Yuval Yoaz, Haaretz Correspondent The search committee for the next state rosecutor decided Wednesday evening to clear the way for three external candidates to contend the position. These three are in addition to three members of the State Prosecutor's Office who have already submitted their candidacy. The new contenders are: Yehuda Weinstein, currently a defense attorney and owner of a legal firm; attorney Moshe Lador, who served in the past as Jerusalem's district prosecutor and left public service a few years ago; and Brigadier General Avihai Mandelblit, the Israel Defense Forces Military Advocate General. After the external candidates agreed to contend for the position, the search committee decided to interview them. This was in parallel to the committee's decision to interview the three internal candidates from the State Prosecutor's Office. These are: Shai Nitzan, deputy state prosecutor for special affairs; Central District attorney Rachel Shiber; and Avia Alef, the head of the economic division in the State Prosecutor's Office. The committee earlier determined to disqualify attorney Eitan Maoz from the selection process. Maoz is currently with the law firm of M. Seligman, whose attorneys are handling the criminal allegations against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. |
