Balad activist murdered on doorstep of his business in Lod

By Roni Singer-Heruti, Haaretz Correspondent

Musa Abu Kishk, a 52-year-old resident of Lod was murdered Monday evening as he stood in his kiosk at the Lod central bus station.

The police are investigating various theories, however at this time there does not appear to be a connection between this and two other murders that have occurred in the town recently.

Abu Kishk was a well-known personality in Lod, and was a leading activist in the city's Balad party.

From an investigation by the police's Central District Investigations and Intelligence Department it was learned that shortly after midnight on Monday a masked person entered the kiosk, of which Abu Kishk was one of the owners, and fired a number of shots at close range. The shooter immediately fled the scene of the crime on foot.

Dozens of people from the neighborhood immediately gathered at the site. Lod police and Magen David Adom ambulance personnel arrived at the scene, but were unable to revive Abu Kishk, who was declared dead on arrival.

A number of paths of investigation are being explored, including the possibility that Abu Kishk paid with his life for a criminal dispute involving some other member of his family, or that his public activities played a part in the tragedy.

As of Monday, the police said they believe there to be no connection between this incident and two other murders that have recently occurred in the town, one of which also took place at the doorway of another business at Lod's central bus station.
