An eight-year-old girl died Friday from injuries she sustained when she was hit by an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV)in the Lower Galilee town of Kfar Tavor.

The accident occurred when a 20-year-old man from nearby Kfar Shibli drove wildly into the village at a high speed, and hit Tal Zino, who was riding her bicycle near the local synagogue.

The girl, Tal Zino, was critically injured and evacuated to a hospital in Afula, where she later died of her injuries.

Local residents who witnessed the accident attempted to beat the driver, but a police officer that happened upon the scene on his way to the synagogue evacuated him unscathed.

The driver broke his arm in the accident and was taken to Haemek Hospital in Afula, where he is being treated under police guard.

It emerged that the driver's license had been revoked because of a prior violation.

Police will seek to extend the remand of the driver at the Nazareth Magistrate's Court Saturday.

Moti Dotan, head of the Lower Galilee regional council, appealed to the police to "take action to stop the wild and criminal behavior of youngsters in Kfar Shibli."

Medical serives said that 1,573 people required medical treatment on Yom Kippur, including 31 children who were injured in bicycle-related accidents. Eighty-one people fainted during the fasting day, and nine people needed resuscitation.
