Treasury to reimburse Olmert for legal costs during war probeBy Yuval Yoaz, Haaretz Correspondent The state treasury has decided to reimburse Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for the legal expenses of his appearances before the Winograd Commission probing the war in Lebanon, it emerged Tuesday. Responding to a reporter's question, Justice Ministry Managing Director Moshe Shilo said Olmert was the only witness that asked to be reimbursed. Shilo heads the panel that recommended Attorney General Menachem Mazuz accept Olmert's request to cover the legal fees he spent compensating his attorney Eli Zohar. The exact sum paid will be determined at a later date, after the committee hands its findings and when the extent of legal aide provided to the prime minister can be quantified. Zohar's law firm is considered one of the best and most expensive in Israel. |
