Teen killed from bullet accidentally discharged from friend's rifleBy Eli Ashkenazi, Haaretz Correspondent A 19-year-old from Nazareth was killed Sunday when his friend's military-issue rifle accidentally discharged in a home in Kfar Kana. The police reported that the friend, currently serving in the Border Police, was sitting with his two friends in a house in the "Bneh Beitha" neighborhood of the village. For some reason, he decided to take his M-16 assault rifle apart, or check it. A bullet discharged and hit his friend in the chest, wounding him critically. Magen David Adom emergency medical teams arrived at the scene and tried to resuscitate the young man, but their attempts were unsuccessful. They pronounced his death shortly after their arrival. Police investigators also arrived at the scene, and began collecting evidence. The internal Police Investiagtion Unit will also be looking into the incident. Approximately one week ago, a 32-year-old resident of moshav Dalton in the north was seriously wounded when his 28-year-old brother accidentally fired his army gun while cleaning it. |
