Qassam rocket slams into Sderot home; one person lightly hurtBy Mijal Grinberg, Haaretz Correspondent A Qassam rocket directly struck a home in the western Negev town of Sderot on Tuesday lightly wounding one person. A mother and daughter were in the house during the rocket strike. They evacuated the building and descended into the bomb shelter unharmed. One man was wounded by shrapnel and was taken to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon. Magen David Adom emergency medical workers treated several people for shock at the scene. The armed wing of Fatah, Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade, claimed responsibility for the strike. The attack came hours before a scheduled meeting between Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in Jerusalem. Last Thursday, a Qassam rocket directly hit a house in Sderot causing extensive damage to the building. The rocket penetrated the home's roof and landed inside the home. The residents of the home, the Timsit family, were taken to a shock treatment center. The same house had been hit by a Qassam several months ago, and one of the family members had been seriously wounded. |
