Physician arrested for conspiring to kill his son-in-lawBy Jack Khoury, Haaretz Correspondent A middle-aged doctor from the northern village of Kfar Yasif was arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of conspiring to kill his son-in-law. Galilee District Police say the suspect, Dr. Salim Safia, is believed to have been involved in a series of criminal incidents that included shooting and arson attacks on his relative. Police began an undercover investigation based on indications the suspect tried to hurt his son-in-law, Ramzi Safia, who is his distant relative. Police also learned that the suspect avidly opposed his daughter's marriage, due to a family dispute. Dr Safia allegedly met with two undercover agents and offered them thousands of U.S. dollars in exchange for killing the man. Early Tuesday morning he allegedly met the would-be hit man, who told him the job had been completed. When the suspect asked to see the body, he was arrested. Police will ask Tuesday for the extension of his remand. |
