Barak okays new chief of security for Defense MinistryBy Yossi Melman, Haaretz Correspondent Defense Minister Ehud Barak approved Tuesday the appointment of Amir Kain as the new security chief of the Ministry of Defense, replacing Yehiel Horev, who is leaving after over 20 years heading the department within the ministry responsible for internal security (Malmab). Over the past 20 years, Kain filled a number of positions at the ministry, including serving as its representative in Australia and, for the past six years, as an assistant to the ministry's director-general. Prior to that, he soent 10 years with Malmab, working in the area of information security. A number of candidates competed for the position, including the head of information security at Malmab, Shlomo Ma'ayan. After deliberation, a committee headed by Internal Security Director-General Pinchas Buchris and staffed by representatives from various other departments, opted for Kain over the others. Veteran civil servant Horev, who also functions as the MOD Deputy Director-General, will retire at the end of the month. |
