30-year-old man shot and killed in western Galilee villageBy Eli Ashkenazi, Haaretz Correspondent A 30-year-old resident from the Galilee village of Dir El-Assad was shot and killed late Friday night by unknown assailants. Police believe that a scuffle between criminals was the motive for the murder, and two suspects were arrested after their car turned over while they fled the scene. Earlier Friday, police launched a manhunt for an unknown assailant who fatally stabbed a 67-year-old man in Upper Nazareth earlier in the day. Michael Ronkin was stabbed in the head and chest as he left his house on Marganit Street to empty his trash can, according to an initial inquiry. His wife heard his cries and arrived at the scene of the crime where she found him covered in blood. He was declared to have died of his wounds by a Magen David Adom team. The man has no previous criminal record and the murderer's motives are as yet unknown, police said. An investigation team headed by police official Ami Mualem has been charged with probing the incident. |
