Two brothers, aged one and two, die in fire in Safed apartmentBy Eli Ashkenazi, Haaretz Correspondent Two young brothers, aged one and two, died Monday morning at Ziv Hospital in Safed after they were critically injured in a fire broke out in their family's apartment in the city. The brothers' parents and their three other children, aged six, four and two months, four and six, were critically injured. A Magen David Adom paramedic who treated the family members was lightly injured. The mother and her daughter, who were very badly hurt, were evacuated by helicopter to the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa. Firefighters who managed to extract the family from the burning building said that the mother saved the two-month-old infant's life by holding him outside the window of the apartment. The family suffered serious smoke inhalation. The young children who died, as well as the mother and child in critical condition, were also badly burned in the fire. Firefighters have controlled the fire, but do not know as yet what caused it. |
