Grig Davidovitz appointed new editor of Haaretz Web sites

By Haaretz Service

The Haaretz Group on Thursday named Grig Davidovitz as the new editor of the Haaretz Internet department, comprising Haaretz.com and Haaretz.co.il.

He will replace Peter Hirschberg, who has left to join the private business sector.

Davidovitz, 32, has been working at Haaretz since 1999. He has held a number of senior positions, including editor of the features section and, most recently, deputy editor of the news desk.

In the framework of his new position, he will work alongside Gadi Lahav, the editor of the Haaretz Group Web sites.

Davidovitz has a law degree from Tel Aviv University and is a lecturer in the Communications Department at Sapir College.

He will be replaced at the news desk by Nir Hasson, who has until now been the Haaretz legal affairs correspondent.

Haaretz Editor-in-Chief David Landau said Thursday that, "the entire staff is sorry to see Peter Hirschberg go.

"He is credited with many significant achievements in both his current position as Web site editor and in his previous position as editor of the English print edition.

"Grig Davidovitz was the loyal partner of Ronen Zaretzky, head of the news staff, and both pushed the newspaper forward in unprecedented and successful directions. In his new position, Grig will serve as an important bridge between the newspaper and the new media outlets that the Haaretz Group is looking to advance."
