'Stay More' - an Arkansas name for a place worth living in
Toby Press, a publishing house that operates in Jerusalem and publishes English-language books that are distributed in the American and British markets, is now publishing its first book in Hebrew. "The Architecture of the Arkansas Ozarks" is an entertaining novel by American author Donald Harrington. It has been translated into Hebrew by Assaf Gavron and edited by Aliza Ziegler.
The story takes place in the fictional city of Stay More in Arkansas, and tells the history of the Ingledew family, via the story of the construction of their homes. Harrington was born in 1935 and grew up in Little Rock. Today he lives in Fayetteville. He spent his childhood summers in the small village of Drakes Creek in the Arkansas Ozarks, from which he drew the inspiration for the town of Stay More, which appears in many of his books. To date he has published 13 novels, some of which the Toby Press plans to publish in Hebrew.
Toby Press, which was established in 1999 by Matthew Miller, specializes in belles lettres in English. It publishes the books of Amoz Oz, S. Yizhar, Aharon Appelfeld, Aharon Megged, Amir Guttfruend, Haim Sabato, Etgar Keret, Alona Kimhi and others in English.
It also publishes books by Jewish writers who write in English, including the first novel by British author Tamar Yellin, "The Genizah at the House of Shepher," which last week won the inaugural $100,000 Sami Rohr Prize for Jewish Literature.
