PFLP: Shalit won`t be released during Olmert`s tenure as PMBy Haaretz Staff The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine warned on Tuesday that Israel Defense Forces kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit would most likely not be released during Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's term in government. A PFLP spokesman said in an interview to the Jordanian newspaper Ad-Dustour that "the [current] government is unable to reach decisions." The statement comes in response to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's expectation regarding Egypt's prisoner exchange deal proposal last week. At the end of a meeting between Abbas and Meretz chairman Yossi Beilin in the West Bank city of Ramallah last week, Abbas had said that two to three weeks would be needed to discuss the Egyptian proposal. Corporal Gilad Shalit was snatched from his Gaza base on June 25, 2006. It is believed that the kidnapped IDF soldier is being held by Hamas and other groups in the Palestinian territories. |
