By Mijal Grinberg, Haaretz Correspondent

An Israel Defense Forces soldier was moderately injured on Saturday after he stepped on a landmine in the Arava Valley.

The soldier is hospitalized at Be'er Sheva's Soroka Medical Center. His leg was severed in the blast.

The incident occurred when the soldier, who was patrolling the perimeter of a nearby Israel Air Force base, stepped into an adjacent minefield.

The army has set up a committee headed by Major General Yoav Glint to investigate the causes of the accident.
