Winograd Committee to release interim report on MondayBy Nir Hasson, haaretz Correspondent The Winograd Committee investigating the handling of the Second Lebanon War announced Wednesday it will release its interim report Monday at 4 P.M. to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Amir Peretz. A press conference will be held an hour later, and the main points of the report released to the public. The committee also said it would simultaneously release the entire report during the press conference on its Web site. The interim report covers the entire period between the IDF withdrawal from Lebanon in 2000, and until July 17, 2006, five days after the Second Lebanon War broke out. The committee announced in March that the interim report would include a severe evaluation of the functioning of the government and the Israel Defense Forces during the war, and an analysis of the period before the war. The period to be included in the report will span the withdrawal from south Lebanon in 2000 until the war itself, including general conclusions and analysis of the decision-making process during the withdrawal and until Olmert's Knesset speech on July 17, 2006, five days after the start of the war. The committee also said that the analysis of the decisions made during this period will include specific findings, recommendations and conclusions regarding the general functioning of the army, and personal findings regarding the decisions made by the prime minister, defense minister, and former IDF chief of staff Dan Halutz to go to war. |
