Lawyer indicted for stealing millions of shekels from clientsBy Nir Hasson, Haaretz Correspondent Lawyer Doron Marom was indicted on Friday for allegedly stealing millions of shekels from his clients -including a mentally ill woman over whose financial assets he was appointed as custodian by a court. Marom had fled abroad but was arrested in the U.S. in 2006 and extradited to Israel last week. According to the indictment, Marom stole NIS 607 in total from the woman over whose finances he was appointed custodian. In addition, Marom is charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of shekels from other clients and is suspected of receiving money from insurance companies and failing to transfer them to his clients. In the its request to remand Marom, state prosecution wrote he "severly betrayed [his clients] trust and stole them money they deserved." |
