Bomber blows himself up in Morocco, police kill second suspect

By News agencies

Two men sought by police for their suspected role in the March bombing of an Internet cafe were killed Tuesday during a police chase in Casablanca, Morocco's official news agency reported.

One suspect blew himself up as police were about to arrest him, the MAP news agency said. The other, also carrying explosives, was shot and died of his injuries, the report said.

The men were among three suspects being sought by police investigating a March 11 bombing in a cybercafe that killed the suspected bomber and injured others.

Police say the suspect, Abdelfettah Raydi, detonated his bombs when confronted by the cybercafe owner, who caught Raydi surfing jihadist Web sites.

The attack revived worries about terrorism in Morocco, scene of a 2003 suicide attack in Casablanca.

Moroccan authorities said the blast in the cybercafe derailed a larger plot that involved 30 people. The group had amassed dozens of kilograms (pounds) of homemade explosives in a Casablanca apartment and planned to attack tourist sites in Casablanca.
