Palestinian man shot after stabbing 2 Israeli troops in HebronBy Amos Harel, Haaretz Correspondent Border Police troops shot and wounded a Palestinian Sunday after he stabbed them, one of them seriously, near the Cave of the Patriarchs in the West Bank city of Hebron. The other border policeman was lightly wounded, the Magen David Adom ambulance service said. Witnesses said the Palestinian opened a door of the jeep in which the two border policemen were sitting, stabbing one in the ribs and one lightly in the chest, before they opened fire. Initial reports said that the Palestinian had been killed, but medics later said his wounds were light and not life-threatening. "Two Israeli border policemen were stabbed. One sustained moderate wounds and the other was lightly injured," an IDF spokesman said. "The attacker was shot in the leg. He is alive." The shrine, sacred to both Jews and Muslims, has been a frequent focal point of violence. |
