Third suspect charged in brutal robbery of elderly Haifa womanBy Fadi Eyadat, Haaretz Correspondent and Haaretz Service A third man has been indicted in connection to the brutal beating and robbery of a 68-year old Haifa woman in January. Liran Hubert, 22, of Haifa turned himself in Monday after police released his picture to the public and asked for help in locating him. Last week, an indictment was filed against Arik Shechter, 25, also of Haifa. Shechter and two other defendants are accused of breaking into the apartment of Ita Fogel and beating and torturing her over the course of three hours. The indictment against Shechter stated that Shechter, with fellow suspect Stefan Borisvicho and a third man arrived at Fogel's house after hearing that she kept a large sum of money hidden there. The suspects allegedly caused a power outage in the building, waited for Fogel to exit her apartment for the stairwell where they attacked her and forced their way into the apartment. The indictment alleged that the three defendants tortured Fogel after they were unable to find any money in her house. Borisvicho allegedly gagged Fogel's mouth with tape, beat her and poured bleach on her. Later on, the suspects doused Figo in water and applied electric shocks to her body. Shechter was arrested two weeks ago after his picture was broadcast by national media. |
