Security guard killed in Holon supermarket robbery

By Roni Singer-Heruti, Haaretz Correspondent

56-year-old security guard Yom-Tov Duack was killed during the course of a robbery at the "Hetzi Hinam" supermarket in Holon on Friday.

Initial investigations reveal that the masked robbers arrived at the supermarket on motorcycles shortly after one A.M. and forced two employees to let them in. Once inside, the robbers assaulted Duak, striking him in the head, and disarmed him. He later died of his wounds.

One of the suspects then waited near the entrance while the other robbed the head cashier at gunpoint, firing in the air several times. When he tried to leave with the money, security guards and several of the supermarket's 300 customers assaulted the robber and stabbed him.

The robber sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Wolfson Medical Center in Holon for treatment after he was arrested.

Police are still searching for the second robber.

A security guard was lightly wounded during the robbery when he accidently shot himself.
