Be'er Sheva court extends remand of suspected child rapistBy Mijal Grinberg, Haaretz Correspondent The Be'er Sheva Magistrate's Court on Friday extended by 7 days the remand of a man arrested for raping an 11-year-old girl in Arad earlier this week. A Police spokesperson said that the man initially denied the allegations him, but eventually confessed to the crime and reenacted it. Police suspect that the man was also involved in at least 10 other incidents of sexual assault against minors in the Be'er Sheva area. After leaving her Arad home Monday at 3:30 P.M., the girl was assaulted by an anonymous attacker, who forced her into nearby bushes and violently raped her. After the incident, the girl returned home and told her mother she had been raped. The mother alerted security forces, who questioned the girl and launched a search the area. In the manhunt, conducted with the assistance of helicopters, police detained three men ages 20-30. Two of the men are suspected of accessory to rape. |
