By Haaretz Service

The Police Investigations Department on Wednesday arrested a Kfar Sava police officer suspected of aiding members of a local crime ring in exchange for money.

According to the suspicion, which was concluded following months of private investigation, the officer received $1,000 from criminals in exchange for inside information on police activity against illegal gambling.

According to PID, on a number of occasions the officer transferred to criminals managing illegal casinos information on planned police raids.

The officer was questioned for a few hours Wednesday and then released to 5-day house arrest. Investigators warned the policeman not to make any contact with officers at his station or other authorities. He will be summoned for another round of questioning in the coming days.

Last week, a detective in the Immigration Police was indicted for allegedly belonging to an organized crime ring and supplying it with information and other services in exchange for money and sexual favors.
