Gunmen fire on house of Hamas cabinet minister in Nablus

By The Associated Press

Gunmen fired at the house of a Hamas cabinet minister, breaking windows, but causing no injuries, the politician said Saturday.

Planning Minister Samir Abu Eisha, who lives in the West Bank city of Nablus, said the shots were fired around midnight Friday.

There was no claim of responsibility.

The shooting came after several days of lull in deadly infighting between the Islamic militant Hamas faction and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas rival Fatah movement.

The rival factions signed a coalition government agreement last week in Mecca. On Thursday, Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and his Hamas government resigned, and Abbas appointed him to form the new team, in accordance with the Mecca agreement.

Ghazi Hamad, a spokesman for the Hamas government, accused the assailants of trying to undermine the formation of the agreed-upon coalition government.
