IDF arrests Palestinian carrying explosives south of Nablus

By Mijal Grinberg, Haaretz Correspondent, and Haaretz Service

A Palestinian man carrying two explosive devices was arrested at the Hawara checkpoint, south of the West Bank city of Nablus, on Saturday.

A Border Police sapper detonated the charges.

Four Qassam rockets were fired at the western Negev on Friday, two landing next to the Karni crossing, and the other two next to the Gaza security fence. There are no reports of damage or injuries at this time.

On Thursday, three rockets were at the Negev, with one striking the industrial zone in southern Ashkelon. No damage was caused, but one bystander was rushed to the city's Barzilai Hospital to be treated for shock.

The remaining rockets landed in open fields and in a water-retention facility at Kibbutz Niram, with no damage reported.

Local authorities in the Gaza envelope on Thursday welcomed the High Court of Justice recommendation to cancel their current method of defending area schools.

The High Court stated that the present method of fortifying specific rooms and expecting the children to make it to the fortified rooms in the 15 seconds before the rocket hits is not realistic.
