60-year-old man shot to death by man on moped in south Tel AvivBy Roni Singer-Heruti, Haaretz Correspondent A Tel Aviv resident was shot to death Thursday morning by a man riding moped in a neighborhood in the south of the city. The 60-year-old man was shot at the corner of Ha'aliya and Wolfson streets, a southern part of Tel Aviv, by a gunman on a moped. He was seriously injured and died on the way to Ichilov Hospital in north Tel Aviv. The murder took place at around 9 A.M. as the motorcyclist, wearing a helmet, stopped at the intersection near where the victim was standing, pulled out a gun and fired several shots before driving off. Avner Newman, a witness at the scene, said, "I passed by on my moped, when I suddenly heard several shots. I turned my head to the right and saw a man on a dark-colored moped wearing a dark helmet and holding a gun. By the time I looked, he had fired at a man who on the ground." "I heard the screams of the wounded man," Newman recalled. "People were standing around, and a second later the moped rider had already fled the scene." |
