Kafr Qassem resident confesses to Saturday murder in village

By Yuval Azoulay, Haaretz Correspondent

On Saturday, police in Kafr Qassem arrested three suspects in the murder of a Kafr Qassam resident, one of whom, a 21-year-old resident of the village, confessed to the crime.

Akram Taha, 30, was shot to death Saturday morning in the entryway to his home in Kafr Qassem. The police have stated that Taha may have been murdered because of a romantic relationship he was involved in with a resident of the village.

Police are holding the other two men, under suspicion that they assisted in the murder of Taha, and that they may have been at the scene of the crime during the murder. Taha was shot in the doorway of his home early Saturday morning, and was critically wounded.

Magen David Adom paramedics were called to the scene, but their efforts to save Taha failed, and he died shortly thereafter. Police forces arrived at the scene of the crime under command of Chief of the Sharon Region Police Manashe Arviv, who called for the creation of a special investigative team to examine the crime.

Police are still examining whether or not the three suspects ambushed Taha at his home, or followed him home to the scene of the murder.

Investigations of the three suspects are continuing at the moment and Saturday night they will be brought to a special hearing to determine the conditions of their detainment.
