Dates set for Jerusalem book fair

By Shiri Lev-Ari

The 23rd Jerusalem International Book Fair will take place on February 18-23, 2007. The fair, which will be held at the International Convention Center, (ICC Jerusalem, Binyanei Ha'uma), will feature about 800 publishers, including HarperCollins, Penguin Books, Gallimard, Random House and Mondadori.

Among the guest authors from abroad scheduled to appear at the fair are Adolfo Garcia Ortega of Spain, Martin Gilbert of the U.K. and Arnon Grunberg of The Netherlands.

A number of events are scheduled to take place in the capital during the fair, including a literary cafe that will bring together authors and their readers, a seminar for literary editors and agents from around the world, and a conference on encouraging reading.

The Israel Prize for Literature will also be awarded at the fair. The name of the recipient will be released shortly, following a delay due to a traffic accident in which selection committee chairman Prof. Aviezer Ravitzky was injured, more than two months ago.

The fair was initiated in 1963 by then-Jerusalem mayor Teddy Kollek. In recent years it became a biennial event.
