Man killed in road accident after visiting new baby in hospitalA 39-year-old man from Maghar died Sunday of injuries sustained in a traffic accident at the Golani Junction in the north of the country Saturday night, becoming the ninth fatality on Route 65 in the past six months. His 4-year-old daughter was seriously injured in the accident. Nasrallah Abu Shakara and four of his children were returning from visiting Abu Shakara's wife and the children's mother, Nassaril, at Poriya Hospital, where she had just given birth to a girl. After the hospital visit, the family stopped at relatives in the village of Turan and on the way the home, the crash occurred. An initial investigation of the accident indicates that one of the two drivers involved failed to stop at a red light. Two brothers from Afula were in the other car, and both were lightly injured. Juana Abu Shakara, 4, is being treated at Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, and her three siblings - 9-year-old twin boys Francis and Elias and their 18-year-old sister - are in light to moderate condition at Poriya Hospital. Nasrallah Abu Shakara was buried on Sunday in Maghar. The funeral procession set out from the family's church a few hours before the Christmas eve mass. "The police are looking for witnesses who saw the accident," said Uzi Dayan, an officer in the traffic department of the Amakim district police. "Unfortunately, people saw the accident but haven't reported it to us. We ask that they come to us." Related article: Pedestrian and driver killed in two traffic accidents in north |
