Pedestrian and driver killed in two traffic accidents in north

By Eli Ashkenazi, Haaretz Correspondent, and Haaretz Service

A 60-year-old pedestrian was killed Friday morning when a car crashed into her while she was crossing a street in Haifa.

The driver, 28, who recently received his license, was taken by police for questioning.

In a separate accident in the north of the country, an 80-year-old driver was killed when, upon initial findings, the driver deviated from his lane on Route 65 and crashed into a trailor driving in the opposite lane.

The head of the regional traffic police department, Jack Dan, said that the specific part of the road is undamaged and straight, and perhaps because of the amount of traffic on the road and the fact that there is no security barrier between the lanes, any deviation from the lane could result in an accident. Dan called it an "unremorseful road."
