Father of slain Golan teen calls for panel of inquiry into murder

By Eli Ashkenazi

The father of a Golan teenager murdered last week in the bathroom of her Katzrin high school called on police Sunday to establish a panel of inquiry into the killing.

He said that since his 13-year-old daughter Tair Rada was found dead in the bathroom of the Nofei Golan High School, he has learned of numerous instances of violence within the school walls.

He said his daughter had told her mother that the school had installed security cameras in the building to protect against thefts, and had asked why the cameras weren't there to watch over troublesome students.

Ilana Rada, Tair's mother, complained that "most of the money we have given is invested in computers and not in security," and demanded that all efforts be made to arrest the killer. "The cover-up is over," Rada told Northern District Police Chief Dan Ronen and Katzrin Regional Council head Sami Bar Lev during their visit to the family home on Sunday.

Some 40 percent of students were absent from classes on Sunday, as the school reopened after being shut down by the Education Ministry following the murder.

Earlier Sunday, some 25 students demonstrated against the school's decision to reopen, saying, "as long as the murderer is free, there is no security to return to studies at this school."
