Songwriter and journalist Eli Mohar, who died Thursday of cancer at the age of 58, was laid to rest Sunday in Holon

Mohar, considered one of Israel's best songwriters, was best known as the veteran columnist in the Tel Aviv weekly Ha'ir, which published his weekly column "Goings on Around Town."

Mohar was born in Tel Aviv in 1948 to Adina and Yehiel Mohar, a well-known songwriter.

He graduated from A.D. Gordon school and "Tichon Hadash" and was a member of the Mahanot Olim youth movement.

Mohar served in the Israel Defense Forces Nahal paratroopers' Regiment 50 and took part in the Six-Day War, the War of Attrition and the Yom Kippur War.

He wrote for Bemahane, Davar and Ha'ir, and until recently published two regular columns in Ha'ir "Goings on Around Town" and "Basha'ar," (at the goal post) about football. A longtime Hapoel Tel Aviv fans, he penned the song "They told him," which is performed by Arik Einstein, about the team.

Mohar, who recently moved from Tel Aviv to Azur, was married for the second time and was a father to Sharon and a grandfather of three.

He collaborated with composer Yoni Rechter on two albums, and the two also used to perform together. In the mid-'90s he published a collection of poems.

Mohar wrote three books (including "Goings on Around Town" and "Company C Platoon 3" with David Tartakover) and a biographical album with Arik Einstein entitled "It's the Same Love."
