Dozens gather outside Olmert's office to protest Qassam fire

By Mijal Grinberg, Haaretz Correspondent

Dozens of demonstrators gathered Thursday outside Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office in Jerusalem, to protest the ongoing firing of Qassam rockets by Palestinian militants at the western Negev town of Sderot.

During the demonstration, Hanan Ya'akobob, whose father was killed in a Qassam strike last week, read out a letter addressed to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

The 12-year-old criticized the prime minister for what he called the abandonment of his father and other Sderot residents to their fate. Ya'akobob said the prime minister had failed to provide a solution to the Qassam fire, and must therefore resign.

The Jerusalem demonstration followed a four-day protest march from Sderot, which began with 10 youths, including 4 Sderot residents. Protestors from other parts of the country joined them along the way.

Yechiel Hajbi, a Sderot resident who participated in the march, said its aim was to send a message that the government needs to end Qassam fire at their town and that a cease-fire was an insufficient solution.
